Are you planning on reading any spooky reads for October?
Not only do I love fall, but I 100% love Halloween. Halloween is my favorite holiday, and I have so many memories of it as a kid, even dating back to my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles costume when I was five. I was one hell of a Michaelangelo, let me tell you! I had nunchucks and everything, and I was keeping those sewers clean 24/7. In addition to my low key obsession with the Ninja Turtles from my childhood, I love all things Halloween - the Adams family, candy corn (NOT candy pumpkins, though), and *moderately* spooky reads. Okay, who am I kidding? I read basically nothing spooky. EVER. I live alone and if I read too much that's spooky, I'm likely to end up spraying myself with mace because I got scared. This year, though, I'm changing that! (A little).
My goal this month is to read a few books that are somewhat outside my comfort area or different from what I usually read. First up is Stalking Jack the Ripper. I'm thinking I will like this series, and my sister swears to me it isn't scary. It's also beloved on bookstagram, so I'm hoping the team will do me a solid here and recommend a winner. I'm also diving into one of my Pride and Prejudice inspired books, Pride and Premeditation. There's a sequel coming out in the spring I think (I'm still a little salty Net Galley declined my request for it...hello, did you SEE my username is CHASINGMRDARCY??), and I want to knock this one off my TBR, especially since I paid full price for this puppy at Barnes and Noble. The Ravens is also on my list for this month; it just sounds really good, and there's also a sequel coming out next year. I love a series, what can I say?
I'm also hoping to read the Kingdom of the Wicked. I've got the second on pre-order, and I think I will enjoy this series. I've seen a lot of people sharing some love for it on bookstagram, and honestly it seems like it's right up my alley. These books combined with a few arcs from Net Galley I'm going to knock out make up my October reading plans. I'm hoping to get some books listened to on audio as well; I listened to five audio books in September, and I enjoyed them so much! I go through phases with audio books, but I'm getting better at retaining fiction on audio books. Typically, I use audio books exclusively for non-fiction because fiction hasn't always held my attention, but my brain seems to be changing on me, which I'm okay with!
