November seemed to creep by while also flying by at the same time! I'm not complaining, though, because I love savoring this time of the year. It always seems like I wait for the holiday season only to blink and it's gone. My goal for the holidays this year is to savor them, even if that means leaving my Christmas lights up until January a la Taylor Swift style (which, TBH, I totally plan to do!). I also savored my reading in November, and read some books I really liked!
I think I was successful in my reading goal of knocking out some arcs from my Net Galley list while also reading from my backlist of books.
My absolute favorite book from November was The Lady Tempts an Heir by Harper St. George. This is the third book in the Gilded Heiresses series, and it might be my favorite. My love for Helena and Max is almost as great as my love for Violet and Christian from book #2. Do you ever read one scene in a book that completely flips the switch for you? Well, that happened to me in The Lady Tempts an Heir. I don't want to give away too much because this book doesn't publish until February 2022 and because my review isn't posted yet, BUT...there's a scene where Max defies societal conventions to make sure Helena knows the depths of his feelings, and it just gave me all the feels. There's just something that sets my heart ablaze about a historical fiction character that tells society to bugger off, and Max is 100% that character. This book also gave me a female character in Helena that I identified with so much. Love love love it!
I also read a few other good ones this month. I tackled the second book in two different series, and loved them both. First, I read When We Left Cuba with my friend Stephanie on bookstagram. I really enjoyed this book, and it was nice to bounce my thoughts around with Stephanie while we read. I thought the continuation of the Perez family's story was well-executed, but I did not like it as much as Next Year in Havana. I think I enjoyed the dual timelines from that one, but Beatriz's story was equally as compelling. There were some plot points that were rushed and not as well-done as the first book, but overall, I really enjoyed it. I also reading Hunting Prince Dracula, the second book in the Stalking Jack the Ripper series. This is an unexpected love for me because I really didn't think I would like this series at all. I love the two main characters, and I thought HPD was excellent. It dragged a little in places because this book is a thiq girl, and I felt like the book could have been edited down quite a bit. That being said, the plot was really good and the ending was fantastic. I'm looking forward to the third book.
I was quite the historical fiction aficionado in November because my other well-loved book from this month was An Heiress's Guide to Deception and Desire. This is also the second book in a series, and I thought this one far outperformed the first. The two main characters, Val and Caroline, pulled me in from the first chapter. I felt like this story really hit the ground running, and there was always something going on. The plot twists were excellent, and the love story between Val and Caroline was the perfect second chance swoon worthy love. I enjoyed this one immensely!
Have you read any of my top reads from November? Let me know!
